I applied to a fake job

Hello Reader,

Have you ever found yourself questioning if a job post is legit or a scam? Unfortunately, even sites like LinkedIn are not scam-proof.

I recently applied for a role I was certain was a scam to see what would happen. And not surprisingly the listing was pulled down a few hours later and whether it's a coincidence or not- I have gotten dozens more spam calls and texts over the past few days.

Here are some of the 🚩🚩🚩 to watch out for with fake job posts:

1- The company doesn't have a presence on LinkedIn and/or doesn't have a website.

Be careful with this one because a lot of the fake posts will use a company name that is similar to a real company. In this case, it was Je Health and there is a Je Healthcare. But nothing came up when I searched for Je Health.

They also do not have a LinkedIn page or anything that shows that they are a legitimate company. Nor was there a person/recruiter attached to the role and I couldn't find anyone that works there on LinkedIn.

2- The job description has inconsistencies or is exactly the same word for word as another job post.

This post was listed as a remote nutritionist role, but then talks about "on-site" work in the job description. Big 🚩.

You will also see some scam companies that copy a position description word for word and then direct you to their external (fake) site to apply.

3- The post is really vague.

Here is the entire post. There isn't a lot to the job description or the qualifications. And this is where the job post ends as well- there isn't any contact information or next steps about the role. This is ALL the info I have.

4- The job isn't in your "applied folder" on LinkedIn.

Normally, every job that you have applied for will go to your "applied folder". In the case of this role, it has vanished entirely and there is nothing that shows that I even applied for this role.

When in doubt...

If you ever find yourself in this situation and you're not sure if a role is legit or not, feel free to email me and I'm happy to share my opinion.

And remember, if a company ever says that they'll reimburse you for equipment or that they need your banking information early on in the hiring process- it is a SCAM! Also, if the company only conducts an interview Microsoft Teams via chat/text, it's likey a scam.

Hello Reader, Over the past few weeks, I have had three dietitians reach out to me with similar frustrations- their companies were advertising positions at salaries higher than what they're currently making OR they found out a coworker was making more for the same role. 👉 Sarah (*names all changed) found out that her brand new coworker is making $7,000(!!!) more for the exact same position, yet he has zero years of experience and she has 5 years of experience. 👉 Kira discovered that her...

Hello Reader, Have you ever gotten into an interview and completely drawn a blank when they asked tricky behavior-based questions?
